Bookcase
This bookcase was one of many large furniture pieces from Utah Shakespeare Festival's production of Silent Sky. It is a total of 8 feet tall.

This is the bookcase after assembling its two halves together. I ripped all of the pieces to length. For every shelf in the unit there is a bottom piece of lauan, the tops is of 1/2" plywood. The sides and back are also of 1/2" ply. This was constructed in two halves one by myself and the other by my coworker Kirken Craven. Props Master Kat Kruetz then assisted me with attaching a full sheet of 1/2" ply to the back.

Trim was then added to the insides and faces of shelves. Poplar was ripped for the baseboard and mitered as well as it's molding atop it. The faces of the sides on the shelves received 1" rips of 1/2" ply. And the faces of the shelves themselves received a baseboard from stock as well as some 1/2" round over. The top also has moulding visible in the next photo.

The bookshelf was then stained with kona gel stain. Due to the size of the piece it was ateam effort to complete this step. Four of us artisans worked on this step. Myself, Kenneth Church, Kirken Craven, and Kaileigh Douglas.

This was the first of four frames. Cut out of 1" by 3" pine ripped 1" pieces and then mitered. They were then assembled with T50 staples.

I then placed the grating on top to scribe lines for the insides of my frames. I think used phuematic shears to cut the sheets out.

After cutting the sheets out, I squared them up and equal distance from the exterior and I then stapled through strips of lauan and the grating to hold it in place.

After assembling the door we attached them to the bookcase and sent it to rehearsal. A note was given to change the metal to aluminum. After spraying a test piece with a glossy aluminum and multiple sheens we finally found a result we liked. I sprayed one door and sent it back to rehearsal for review.

Here is the finished door with hardware attached.
